Gamer (2009) - Gerard Butler. Michael C. Hall. Chris Bridges.

I THINK I'VE SHOVED THIS DOWN EVERYONE'S THROAT PRETTY WELL, but I will get the last of you stragglers. SOMEHOW. Gorgeous camerawork, sweet tangly plot, and suspense. The action scenes feel like an FPS and I think that's awesome. They put so much effort into the tiniest details and I AM FULL OF FEELINGS ABOUT IT. Also: Fucking Ludacris is in this movie.

Brick (2005) - Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Crime noir flick set in a modern(ish) high school setting. That's right. All the jaunty dialogue and larger than life characters crammed into a high school. MURDER, DRUGS, INTRIGUE, HUMOR WHO DUNNIT, ETC. It's wonderful.

RocknRolla (2008) - Gerard Butler. Tom Hardy. Mark Strong. Thandie Newton. Chris Bridges. I have nothing but good things to say about this movie. JUST LOOK AT THAT CAST LIST. Every character is multi-faceted, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and it's alternately thrilling and hilarious. I've seen it over a dozen times in the past year. PLUS: LUDACRIS IS ALSO IN THIS MOVIE. He and Gerard Butler are like... bros or something. FUCKIN BROS.

Breakfast on Pluto (2005) - Liam Neeson. Cillian Murphy

I dare anyone to watch this movie and not fall in love. Cillian plays a transgendered woman trying to make her way in the world in the seventies. Takes place in Ireland and Britain during turbulent fucking times with the IRA and the bombings and shit. Once again, the dialogue and soundtrack captured my fuckin' heart. BAD DECISIONS, GOOD DECISIONS, LONGING, LOVE, LOSS. good gawd, ya'll. This one is a must-see.

Holy shit on toast am I bored.

Been watching LOST again though, despite knowing things. I don't even care. I LOVE SAWYER GUYS.

And on the off-chance that you are also bored, here are a few other shows I recommend to fill the void left behind by OUaT and Grimm:

1. Lost Girl. I know I gripe and complain about supernatural detective shows, but this is a Fae private investigator done right. Warning: sexual content.

2. Casshern Sins. Just premiered on Toonami (TOM MY LOVE) this past Saturday and so far I must say I am intrigued.

3. Deadman Wonderland. Not as intriguing as #2, and I feel like I've either seen it or read it (and I think I must've read it) before. The voice actor for the main character annoys the crap out of me, but it might be worth seeing where it goes.

Right, so, I was browsing Tor and came across this:

And it reminded me--I always wanted to know/do more with the rest of the HP world. And I thought--hey. Pottermore is open. People can get sorted. We can write some HP shit. And I can continue to keep a tight grip on my childhood, following some HP-inspired characters through Hogwarts and, more importantly, what comes after Hogwarts.

Just another idea on ways to stay creatively invested this summer.

So I keep coming back to that wimpy-ass vampire idea. I like Mouse's input about adding in other, stranger, never-really-seen-before creatures (the were-elephant is particularly promising in terms of awkward situations--I mean, THINK ABOUT IT). At the same time, whenever I think of this skinny, perpetually perplexed vampire dude, I always see him with a fairy as a roommate. A fairy that controls the weather and gets all the chicks despite his lovely electric green hair and tendency to set things on fire. On purpose.

But whether I go the fairy route is still up for debate as far as I'm concerned. Hell, this whole story is up for debate. But let's say I really do it, just for shits and giggles. What appropriately normal/dorky name would suit an awkward, skinny ass vampire dude?

NaNo in the Summer

So I'm just going to spam all of our blogs with this--Camp NaNo is now open, and for those of you who don't know, it is essentially NaNoWriMo, but in the summer. This is great since November is always a tricky month for a lot of us who still have to deal with finals, and the months of June and August are blessedly finals-free! The rules are the same as standard NaNo: write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I personally intend to participate in both June and August, and I really hope some of you will join me. It's a great experience, and one you should definitely have if you've ever entertained even slightly the thought of being a writer.

It started with a quest--for the WAGONMASTER.
